Amy Etinger
Jews for Jesus Alumnus
Both of Amy’s parents are Jewish, from Montreal, Quebec. Her mother comes from an Orthodox background and her father was a secular Jew. But now they are Jews who believe in Jesus as the Messiah of Israel! This miracle happened in the late 1970’s, and would help chart the course for the life of their baby daughter, Amy, who was born at this very time. When Amy was just old enough to speak, her parents and older brother prayed with her to live her life for Jesus. The course had been set in motion.
This was also the time when Separatism was threatening to split Quebec from the rest of Canada. The Etinger’s made their way to Toronto. It was here where Amy took up evangelism in middle school. She embraced the windows of opportunity to evangelize to the neighborhood kids and her classmates. Her passionate efforts sometimes got her into trouble, but it was well worth it! One of the kids who prayed with Amy for the first time to give his life to God grew up to serve Him fervently. He preaches regularly at his church, is active in the choir, and has recorded at least one gospel album to date. Like young Amy’s prayer to live for Jesus, it is another example of a simple childhood experience making a lasting impact and charting the course of an individual’s life. Amy grew up attending the Jews for Jesus Friday night meetings in Toronto, as well as the Jews for Jesus Ingatherings, and they made a lasting impact on her. She experienced belonging, spiritual growth, fellowship and lasting friendships with other kids who shared her unique identity as a Jewish believer.
A graduate from Redeemer University ’00,’ Amy has worked with Jews for Jesus ever since 2001 in various different capacities. In 2000, she served on the short-term summer drama team in the Midwest, USA. In January, 2001, she flew off to the Big Apple to train as a Jews for Jesus missionary for a year and a half. She then joined the Liberated Wailing Wall, Jews for Jesus’ traveling, evangelistic music team for 18 months. After a break, working as a preschool teacher, tutor and usher, she made her way back to New York City for 7 months from January to July, 2006 to train with the ministry as a youth worker and participate in her third NY summer July street-witnessing campaign. More recently, Amy served in Canada as our Children and Youth Worker.
